Significantly, a lot has changed since Kohli last came to Edgbaston in 2018. At the time, he was arguably the best batsman in international cricket, scoring centuries for fun. However, the issues are not the same now.

Virat Kohli scored a century and a half-century in his last and only Test match at Edgbaston.

Kohli’s last, and still, his only Test outing at Edgbaston was in August 2018. Although India lost that match by 31 runs against England, the then Indian captain made a great out with the bat. He scored 149 in the first inning, and then backed it up with a 51-run knock in the second inning.

What has changed since then?

Lots. Basically, everything has changed, or turned upside down, for the 33-year-old boy from Delhi. Kohli had 21 Test centuries before that match at Edgbaston. But he has scored just five Test centuries in the last four years since that game.

Moreover, more worrying for the Indian team is that Kohli has not scored a Test century in almost three years. His last Test century, which was also his last for the national team, came back in a Test match against Bangladesh in November 2019.

Statistics clearly show that Kohli has been in a downward spiral since that fight at Edgbaston. So, the former Indian captain will look to turn things around on a field that has been generous to him in the past.
