Possible quarter-final line-up:
Target Sen vs. Li Ji Zia
Lakshya Sen gave India a disappointing start as they lost the first single tie in a straight set to Malaysia’s Lee G. Zia. Malaysia maintained their lead and started the game on a positive note. He kept challenging Laksha with shots to keep the Indian on his backfoot. He was 11-10 ahead in the first set break.
Lakshya Sen continued to challenge the Malaysians and was finally able to take a 19-17 lead towards the end of the first set. But he was tested by Malaysia and in the end, Ji Zia won the first set 23-21.
In the second set, Lakshya Sen was completely out of contention as Li Zhi Xia dominated the entire set and won the contest 21-9.
Kidambi Srikanth vs. Liu Darren
Kidambi Srikkanth is still unbeaten in the tournament as he has won three of his matches so far in the tournament. He could face 34th-ranked Liu Darren in the quarter-finals. Darren has played two games so far and although he won the straight set against Enrico Asuncion of the United States, he suffered a straight set defeat against Kanta Suneyama of Japan in his previous match. Malaysia will once again be ready for a big challenge when it comes to fighting the Indians.
HS romance vs. Leong Jun Hao
HS Romance, who has yet to lose a singles match in the Thomas Cup, could face 46th-ranked NG J Young in the quarterfinals. Jay Young has played two matches and won three sets against Johnny Torjussen of England, defeating Don Avery of the United States in straight sets. But it will be a different challenge against romance as the Indians are in top form at the moment.
Chirag-Rankireddy vs Aaron Chia / Soh Wooi Yik
Chiraw Sethi and Sattviksairaj Rankireddy, who have won the Indian Open title this year, will face 6th seeded pair Aaron Chia and Soh Wee Ik in the quarterfinals. The Malaysian pair recently lost to the Indian pair in the semifinals of the Asian Championship. In the all-important quarter-final, the Indian pair will have to show their strength to stand on any chance to avenge that loss.
Dhruv Kapila – MR Arjun vs Wong Yeh Sin – Teo E Yee
India’s second men’s doubles pair of Dhruv Kapila and MR Arjun will be ready for a tough contest as they are likely to face 10th ranked pair Wong Yue Xin and Teo Yee Yee. The Malaysian pair have played just one match in the Thomas Cup so far, where they have beaten Enrico Asuncion and William Hooke of the United States in straight sets. They enter the competition as favorites. The Indian pair have already lost to Germany’s Bjarne Geiss and Jan Voelker, while they lost to Chinese Taipei’s Lu Ching Yao and Yang Po Han in three sets.
