However, one of the major setbacks for Ajinkya Rahane is her injury. According to Cricbuzz, the experienced batsman has been ruled out of the IPL 2022 and England tour due to a Grade III hamstring injury. But Cheteshwar Pujara is ready to return after being impressed by the county championship in England.

“Pujara was never out of our plan. He had to get his form back and I think he did it. Although his century came in the second division of the county, it is never easy to face the seamers in English conditions. Last year, India had two squads playing simultaneously in England and Sri Lanka. This time, of course, they will not play together. Rather the IPL performers will make the team for the South Africa series. The senior and multi-format stars, including captain Rohit Sharma, will travel to England on June 15.

  • Shikhar Dhawan will return as the captain of the second string team consisting of top IPL performers.
  • The rest including Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Jaspreet Bumrah and Rishabh Pant will be rested and will leave for England on June 15.
  • Apart from Sanju Samson, Hardik Pandya and Dinesh Karthik will return to India for the South Africa series.
  • New faces like Umran Malik, Mohsin Khan and Jitesh Sharma as well as Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ishan Kishan will also be selected.
  • Cheteshwar Pujara will return in the England series but Rahane has been dropped.
  • In addition to Shubhaman Gill, Hanuma Bihari and Shreyas Iyer will be taken on a tour of England.
  • India will play a warm-up match in England before the fifth Test against England on July 1-5.

Ajinkya Rahane will report to the NCA and continue her rehabilitation which is expected to take 4-6 weeks. He will also miss the Ranji Trophy knockout.

For England’s limited overs series, fitness tests like Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Chahar are expected to remain. Hardik Pandya will also join the team after finishing the South Africa series.
