Under the new guidelines, requests will continue to be evaluated on a case-by-case basis but will only be granted if the club concerned has taken all necessary steps to avoid suspension.

“This will replace the previous Covid-19 match suspension guidelines, providing a standardized process for applications.” The league said in a statement.

“Approval will only be granted if the impact of player unavailability on the club’s squad is truly exceptional and where the club concerned has taken all reasonable steps to avoid the need to apply.”

Previously, teams could apply for suspension of fixtures only if their squad had at least four positive Covid-19 cases. The new season is starting from 6th August.
