14-year-old Improvement Hooda was rewarded in fourth place after capturing third place and impressing in the selection trial. He was selected before veteran Saina Nehwal, who missed the trial.

The five teams compete in the continental championship qualifiers, with four semifinalists from Asia and Europe and champions from Africa, Oceania and Pan Am confirming qualifications. The remaining places in the final list of 16 will be based on the team rankings.
