New Zealand currently tops the ICC team rankings in ODIs with 126 rating points, one more than their opponents England. Both teams are in action on Tuesday and a win for either of them will see their points tied, with Tom Latham and Rohit Sharma at the Co-Oval facing Ireland and England against India.

If India lose the series 3-0 to England, then the world champions will rise to the top regardless of the outcome of the Ireland vs New Zealand series. Butler & Company will have 129 points for a 3-0 whitewash, more than New Zealand’s 128 points if they get the same result against Ireland.

A lone defeat would be detrimental to England, giving New Zealand a chance to take a four-point advantage at the top of the table. The same goes for the Kiwis, with a defeat they probably moved five points away from England, even failing to whitewash Butler & Co.

For India, they are currently fourth in the ICC ODI rankings. If they win 3-0, they will move up to third place in the table, still 3 points behind their opponents England. A series rate will have no effect on their position at the table, but will start further away from their arch-rivals Pakistan who are currently on top of them in the standings.
