The first Saturday in June is a special day for racing fans. The derby is traditionally run on this day and in 2022, meaning the race will be held on Saturday, June 4 at the Epsom Downs Racecourse. It is the United Kingdom and probably the largest flat race in the world and is sometimes known as Derby Stacks or Epsom Derby.

A nation with a colorful history

Derby has a long history, first run in 1780. The name of the race comes from before Sponsorship by the Earl of Derby And has since been used for other large horse races around the world. The Kentucky Derby, the Hong Kong Derby, the Australian Derby, and the French Derby are all named after the Epsom Derby, the richest horse race in the UK. Derby is one of the five classic and triple crown races of British horse racing, dating back to 2000 guineas and followed by St. Ledger.

Due to changes in racing and breeding, it has become extremely difficult for the same horse to win the Triple Crown. The demands placed on the horse in modern racing mean that it takes a huge effort for all three, and the last horse to achieve the feat was Nijinsky in 1970, where the late Lester Piaget was the jockey. Camelot was the most recent horse to make a strong effort to win the Triple Crown but finished second in St. Ledger after winning The Derby and 2000 Guinea.

Looking forward to the 2022 Derby and the Desert Crown is a favorite of many to win the race. Desert Crown is the most impressive trial winner in the UK who entered the race. The horse has won three-and-a-half lengths in Dante Stakes, York, and was coached by Sir Michael Stout, who last won the Derby with the Workforce in 2010. Stutt can train winners and the Desert Crown has won the race more than once before, making it a clear favorite among bookmakers to come out on top.

Success on the horizon is repeated?

Trainer Aidan O’Brien Lots of recent successes in The Derby and much more in 2022. O’Brien has amassed six of the last ten winners of this race, an incredible record and his best hope for the 2022 Derby is Stone Age, who won the main trial at Leopardstown. He has multiple wins this year and has proven that he can successfully run more than 2,000 meters.

In terms of the odds of betting, it’s a gap between the desert crown and the Stone Age, which made them a clear favorite to fight for in the first place. However, Piz Badile is worth a look, and he’s one of the team’s horses behind the Stone Age in the Desert Crown and Bet. Frankie Dettori will be in the saddle and this immediately makes Pease Badil a competitor in the 2022 derby. After beating Buckaroo to win the Ballysax Stakes at Leopardstown, Piz could repeat the feat of Badile Harzand, who won both the Ballysax Stakes and Epsom Derby in 2016.

Changingoftheguard is another potential winner of the 2022 Derby. Aidan O’Brien has made winners from less fancy runners in recent years and that’s what makes Changingoftheguard an attractive proposition. All eyes will be on the Stone Age, but change of guard is likely to overcome major adversity.

Excitement will continue to build before the 2022 derby on one of the biggest days in the UK racing calendar. Will the Desert Crown survive the billing of choice or will it surprise outsiders?
