“Yes, there are serious allegations of corruption against Shahbaz, including misappropriation of funds, and an investigation is underway against him. He may also go to jail if found guilty of corruption.” Dr. Khokar.

Shahbaz, who led Pakistan to the Champions Trophy and World Cup titles in 1994, brought in Khokar as the federation’s secretary when he became president in 2015.

Shahbaz served as secretary until December 2018 before resigning in displeasure citing lack of funds in Pakistan Hockey.

Khokar, who won a third term as president, replaced Asif Bajwa with Hyder Hussain as secretary. Hussain is also a former international player.

Khokar himself has come under fire after showing no signs of improvement in the national team’s performance during his tenure.

After finishing fifth in the Asia Cup, Pakistan failed to qualify for next year’s World Cup in India. Pakistan finished seventh in the recently held Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

But Khokar defended himself, insisting that he spent money from his own pocket and used his personal contacts to secure sponsorship for the PHF.

“Had the Sindh government not given us the grant, there would have been no hockey in Pakistan. What am I supposed to do without proper funding for the game?
