Ireland will compete in the Longins FIE Nations Cup in Rotterdam this afternoon.
The event will be live on RTÉ 2 and RTÉ players as Michael Blake’s Irish team chases points in the top division of Europe.
Irish show jumping team manager Michael Blake has named members of his four teams, with Ireland drawing the first of eight teams.
The late Daniel Coyle will be the pathfinder with the legacy. Dennis Lynch of Tipperary and Brooklyn Heights will be in the main courtyard of Ireland. Along with the Highland president, another Tipperary man, Trevor Brin, will be the team’s third representative in the class. Cork’s Shane Sweetnam and Irish Sport Horse James Kan Cruz (ISH) will be at anchor feet.
Today, Ireland will play against the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany, Sweden and Britain.
Italy will also be among the starters but are not eligible for league points as a non-Division 1 team. Ireland’s last win came in 2000 at home Dutch defending champions Rotterdam.
They have amassed 70 league points after finishing fourth in Sopot, Poland, in Ireland’s first point-scoring round in Europe Division 1.
The chance to score Ireland’s remaining points after today will be the Irish Home Nations Cup for the Aga Khan Trophy on July 29 at Hickstead and Friday, August 19 at the Dublin Horse Show.M. Both of these Longinus FII Nations Cup competitions will also be broadcast live on RT7.
