FIH Pro League Live – Match 1 Results: The Indian women’s hockey team recorded a 4-2 clinical victory over the United States in their first match.

Co-captains Deep Grace Ekka (31 ′), Navneet Kaur (32 ′), Sonica (40 ′) and Bandana Kataria (50 ′) contributed one goal each for India. Daniel Grega (28 ′) and Natalie Conarth (45 ′) were the top scorers for the United States.

It was a quiet start to the match, with both teams trying to make room in each other’s striking circles, but without too much damage. The United States made the first real attack in the 10th minute when Megan Roger took a penalty corner in a left-handed run, but missed to convert. Two minutes later, India also won the first penalty corner of their match, but Gurjit missed the chance to convert, thus ending the quarter at 0-0.

The Indian team immediately showed their offensive intent early in the second quarter and had a chance to break the deadlock, but the US defense kept the ball away from the goal. In the 21st minute, USA achieved back-to-back PC, but the Indian defense unit kept USA away.

India reacted quickly and created potential scoring chances but the US defense again thwarted every attempt of their opponents. They even got the second penalty corner of their match but missed to convert it. The United States, on the other hand, broke the deadlock just two minutes before the end of the second quarter. In Indian circles, Erin Matsore got her team 1-0 at the end of the second quarter to get the ball back to the net in the right place and at the right time.

Trailing by one goal, India blew all the guns and scored two goals in the first two minutes of the second half. Co-captain Deep Grace Ekka equalized in the 31st minute through a penalty corner, while forward Navneet Kaur scored India’s second goal in the 32nd minute.

The Indian team accelerated and won a penalty corner in the 36th minute. However, Gurjit’s efforts were again blocked by the US line of defense. India made the scoreline 3-1 in the 39th minute with a goal from Sonica.

However, the United States tried to fight back and their efforts paid off as they won a PC with only seconds left in the third quarter. Natalie Conarth got 2-3 behind the net in the rebound towards the end of the third quarter.

USA started aggressively in the last quarter and created chances early on, but young goalkeeper Bichu Devi avoided danger. Experienced forward Bandana returned India’s two-goal lead in the 50th minute. USA, not giving up easily, got another PC in the 53rd minute, but it failed to convert. The Indians took control of the game with a 4-2 clinical victory in the final stage to consolidate their position in the third position of the points table with 27 points.

The Indian women’s hockey team will play against the United States on June 22 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
