Tournament regular Sandeep Lamishane of Nepal and fellow Sri Lankan spinner Mahesh Thekshana have also joined the foreign pool, which currently has 169 players from 15 countries.

Tahir, 43, is a familiar face in T20 leagues around the world, while Mujeeb represents Brisbane Heart. Like Mujib, fellow Afghans Mohammad Nabi and Zaheer Khan will be eligible for retention after playing for the Melbourne Renegades last season.

Sri Lankan left-arm spinner Jayasuriya will be hoping to impress the franchise after beating Australia by 12 wickets in their Test debut in Galle last month. Jayasuriya has 29 wickets in three Tests, although the 30-year-old is yet to play a T20I.

Pakistani players were absent from the pool and the ESPNcricinfo website reported that the country’s cricket board would not allow them to play. Nominations close on August 21 and the draft takes place on August 28.
