Davis Cup Squad: Rafael Nadal will be eliminated from the group stage of next month’s Davis Cup finals after not being named in Spain’s squad on Monday, while Alexander Zverev will lead the German team. Follow Davis Cup 2022 live updates on InsideSport.IN

Nadal, 36, won the Australian Open and French Open titles earlier this year to take the men’s record number of Grand Slam singles wins to 22.

But he was forced to pull out of Wimbledon with an abdominal injury ahead of his scheduled semi-final against Nick Kyrgios.

Nadal returns to the Cincinnati Masters this week as he prepares for the US Open, but will not make his first Davis Cup appearance since winning the tournament for the fifth time with Spain in 2019.

Spain will instead look to teenage sensation Carlos Alcaraz for inspiration.

Sergi Bruguera’s side will face Canada, Serbia and South Korea in Group B, which will be held in Valencia on September 13-18.

The top two teams from the four groups will advance to the knock-out stage in Malaga in November.

Zverev has not played since suffering a gruesome ankle injury in June’s Roland Garros semifinal against Nadal.

However, the world number two will play at home against France, Belgium and Australia in Group C matches in Hamburg.

Andy Murray will play for 2015 winners Britain who face Kazakhstan, the USA and the Netherlands in Glasgow.
